Book Tour - THE WRONGFUL DEATH by Kenneth B. Andersen

Out of This World SFF Reviews is extremely pleased to be one of the many blogs participating in The Write Reads #UltimateBlogTour featuring Kenneth B. Andersen and his book THE WRONGFUL DEATH!   Today marks Day #9 of the tour and I couldn't be more excited to be one of the stops.  I will be reviewing Kenneth's book next as well as providing you with some biographical info after the review, so be sure to check that out before you go.  But first, here is my official review of this entertaining and exciting third volume in Kenneth's Great Devil War YA fantasy series!

For those who haven't read this incredibly entertaining and witty YA fantasy series, I really recommend that you do so.  They are light reads and the pages fly by pretty quickly but they are also edgy enough to capture the attention of people who want a little more punch in their YA reads.  This is now my third go around with the Great Devil War series and they just keep getting better in my opinion.  That's to be expected though as the main character Philip gets older and the stakes get even higher.

It just seems like Philip can't stay out of Hell these days.  To quote a famous line from the movie The Godfather, "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."  And this is entirely the case with the circumstances surrounding THE WRONGFUL DEATH.  Philip is once again called from his above-ground life and enlisted for duty as another catastrophe is afoot in the fiery pits of the underworld.

This time Sam, Philip's former nemesis, is transported to Hell in a huge mistake.  Sam now finds himself compelled to bring Sam back and return him safely to the world of the living  But what Philip discovers when he descends to his old stomping grounds is more than just a little unrest, it's an all out war waiting to explode at the slightest strike of a match.  Things are going to be much more hairy this time around as Philip must contend with multiple doomsday scenarios at once.  Oh and also save his former bully's skin in the process.

I won't get in to too much more of this story because to do so would be to perhaps give away a lot.  Suffice it to say a lot happens in this book and there is a definite darker tone (if that's possible when talking about a story that involves Hell and Satan) than the previous two books.  I was definitely more engaged with THE WRONGFUL DEATH than the other Great Devil War books.  It was more up my alley in tone and in action.  As I said earlier, you really should check these books out.  They have just a hint of Garth Nix and Philip Pullman that makes you a bit uncomfortable not knowing what is going to happen next.  Definitely a series that I will have my daughters read when they get a bit older.

My Rating: 8/10
